Tourism in Geraldton will be in the spotlight in May next year as it was announced as the host destination of the 2021 WA Regional Tourism Conference.

Presented by Tourism Council WA and industry partners, the announcement was made at a Tourism Connect networking event last night with Perth Airport as the naming rights sponsor.

The industry-wide event will welcome up to 300 delegates and various speakers from across WA for the conference, which will take place from 3 to 5 May.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn said it was a massive opportunity to be named the host for the event.

“This is a massive achievement for us as it recognised the commitment we made four years ago through the Geraldton Jobs and Growth Plan to growing our region’s tourism capacity and offerings,” he said.

“We’re over the moon to be able to welcome delegates and showcase Geraldton as part of Australia’s Coral Coast and the hub for exploring the rest of the amazing Midwest region.

“Hosting the Conference is a huge opportunity for us to shine the spotlight on our tourism industry and promote our local tourism operators to the wider industry whilst growing our economy.”

As presenting partners of the WA Tourism Conference, Tourism Council WA CEO Evan Hall said they are pleased to be bringing the event to Geraldton next year in recognition of the destination’s commitment to continually improving its tourism offering and appeal.

“The WA Regional Tourism Conference is the industry’s leading conference, bringing together tourism operators of all types and sizes from across WA, alongside industry leaders and government representatives,” he said.

“It presents Geraldton with an outstanding opportunity to showcase its offering to the industry and grow its reputation as a tourism destination.”

The 2021 WA Regional Tourism Conference will take place from 3 to 5 May 2021 at the Queens Park Theatre.

More details and information will be released closer to the date.
