Deadly Funny will be lighting up the stage at Queens Park Theatre (QPT) next month for a free night of entertainment that offers aspiring Indigenous comedians the chance to launch their careers into the big time.
Presented by the Melbourne Comedy Festival - Deadly Funny is Australia’s biggest First Nations comedy competition and it is on a mission to unearth the country’s freshest and funniest Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talents.
As anticipation grows for the Midwest’s own Festival of Aboriginal Art and Culture – Iwarra Wilungga, City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Jerry Clune is throwing his support behind this rib-tickling event.
“Deadly Funny will not only be a great night out at QPT it will also provide a fantastic platform for our budding Aboriginal comedians kickstart their careers in showbiz,” he said.
“Alongside the opportunity to get on stage and try material in front of a live audience, participants will also have the chance to sit with seasoned comedian Kevin Kropinyeri during a special two-hour workshop to help refine their acts.
“Additionally, the winner of the Geraldton event qualifies to compete for a cash prize of $1,000 during the state final in Perth and the chance to win a trip to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival for the Deadly Funny National Grand Final.”
Deadly Funny will be bringing the belly laughs to the Queens Park Theatre on Thursday 8 February.
“We are confident this event will unearth a swag of new comics, perhaps even someone who can be added to the Iwarra Wilungga programme for later in the year,” added Mayor Clune.
The City would like to thank event partners Bundiyarra Aboriginal Community Aboriginal Corporation for their assistance in providing catering for the evening and to Tourism WA for their ongoing support of Iwarra Wilungga.
