Geraldton is blessed with perfect weather almost 24/7 and if you love getting out and about in the great outdoors you’ve come to the right place. There’s a variety of different activities you can enjoy and they range from on the land or the water.

Geraldton Foreshore

The Geraldton Foreshore is a beautiful spot to go for a walk, run, bike ride or join in on a group fitness session. Along the stretch you will pass the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre, Dome Café and the Champion Bay Surf Life Saving Club all the while remaining pretty close to the ocean. You can extend your journey past the Rubix Cube amenities to the Geraldton Marina, which is home to many boats and water vessels. For those who really want to clock up some kilometres, continue your walk to the Beresford Foreshore – Geraldton’s newest open space. Finish up by going for a dip in the ocean and making your way back to your starting point.

Water Sports

Geraldton is home to many beautiful beaches and Ultimate Watersports are on hand at the Geraldton Foreshore with all your SUP boards, fly boards, jet skis, kayaks and pedal boats needs. The crew provide guided kayak tours to the iconic Seal Rock and allow you to get up close and personal with some of the Rock’s locals. Make sure you have your waterproof camera gear on the ready because the journey from the Foreshore to Seal Rock is beautiful. A must do for adventurers!

Fishing

We’re spoilt for choice with fishing spots along our coastline. There are a large variety of species which can be caught right off the shore. The Greenough Rivermouth is a particularly popular spot and species such as Bream, Mulloway, Flat Head, Tailor and Herring can be caught.

To enjoy salt water based fishing, get down to Point Moore and Separation Point - both ideal locations to catch Whiting, Herring and Bream. If you feel a little more adventurous, why not try your luck offshore along our coastline or on a day trip to the Abrolhos Islands. The Islands sport amazing fishing conditions and there are a number of providers who can take you out there!

If you’d prefer something a bit more chilled out, the Chapman Valley Fishing Park is a short drive north of Geraldton and is a licenced premises where you can catch Silver Perch, Barramundi and Marron. Don’t worry about the fishing gear, it’s all at the Chapman Valley Fishing Park waiting for you!

Beresford Foreshore 

The Beresford Foreshore is one of Geraldton's beloved open spaces and attracts thousands of visitors. The stretch hugs the coastline and sports barbecues, spots to sit and enjoy the view, first-class amenities, grassed areas, bowls for dogs to drink water out of as well as a playground that resembles a pirate scene. Beresford Foreshore is also home to Lucy Humphrey's Horizon, which has won a number of Sculptures by the Sea accolades. The 1.5m sphere turns the world upside down and has quickly become a community favourite with hundreds snapping their photos and posting online.

Greenough River Walk Trail

This beautiful walk trail spans 17km and is great for those who enjoy walking, running or bike riding. The walk trail hugs the Greenough River and you can often spot a variety of different birds as well as wildlife. If you love bush walking this is the spot for you.

Be careful when walking through the area during the warmer months as snakes have been spotted on occasion.

Pump and Jump Tracks

Get in some air time on your bike or scooter at the Pump and Jump Track in Spalding Park. If mountain bike adventures are more your style, there is also an 11km loop trail that sits just near the Chapman River and is suitable for all ages and skill levels.

The Chapman River also offers plenty of gorgeous scenery for bush walking, with local group Chapman River Friends offering free guided tours on select weekends.

The Esplanade

Located at the southern end of the Geraldton Foreshore, the Esplanade is a must visit if you’re in Geraldton. Offering sprawling views of the city, Port, Champion Bay and Moresby Ranges from a 360 degree viewing platform – this is a great way to take in Geraldton!

With views aplenty, one of the most unique things you can spot from the Esplanade are the friendly Sea Lions on our iconic Seal Rock. There is interpretative signage along the way that will tell you the story of our friendly local Sea Lions as well as the story of the Port and Champion Bay.

The stunning walkway out to the viewing platform boasts beautiful landscaped walkways and barbecue facilities. It’s a beautiful stroll for the whole family.

Did you know: Formerly known as the Eastern Breakwater, it was renamed the Esplanade as an historic reference to the Esplanade Jetty that was once located in the area.

Chapman River Walk Trails

There are a variety of trails in the Chapman River Regional Park to suit walkers, mountain bike riders and horse riders.

Options range from a long 11km loop trail to short 1km trails. Trails take in the wildflowers, the estuary, the river, with some rocky and steep sections for the more experience walkers.

Trail way markers can be found throughout the Chapman River Regional Park to direct trail users.
