Art lovers will be treated to a feast of moving image works and films with three new exhibitions launching this week at Geraldton Regional Art Gallery (GRAG).

Opening at 6pm on Friday 25 August, Single Channel, 2023 Year 12 Nagle Catholic College Media Students’ Films and Media Perspectives 2022 celebrate both established artists and the next generation of talent.

City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn applauded the accessible exhibitions.

Single Channel is a touring exhibition presented by the National Gallery of Australia which has been curated to travel with ease across Australia, reinforcing the Gallery’s commitment to making the national collection more accessible to more Australians,” he said.

“The result is a series of single-channel video features which explore notions of identity in powerful, unexpected and mesmerising ways.

“This incredible exhibition pairs well with 2023 Year 12 Nagle Catholic College Media Students’ Films 2022 and Media Perspectives 2022, which will also be on show.”

Single Channel brings together moving image artworks from some of Australia’s most significant artists – Tony Albert, Destiny Deacon and Virginia Fraser collaboration, Silvana and Gabriella Mangano, Club Até, Shaun Gladwell and Tracey Moffatt.

Displaying alongside is 2023 Year 12 Nagle Catholic College Media Students’ Films, digital media artworks created by top Year 12 students at Nagle Catholic College during their Digital Media Studies Classes in 2023.

Media Perspectives 2022 consists of multiple digital media artworks created by highly ranked senior students across the State as part of their ATAR studies.

Tickets to opening night on Friday 25 August are limited, so patrons are requested to register their attendance via Eventbrite.

A three-session moving image production workshop developed in partnership with PhotoAccess and the National Gallery of Australia and taught online by acclaimed filmmaker Nathan Hughes will also be taking place. Interested participants can register their attendance via Eventbrite.

Due to ongoing delays with essential repairs to the First Floor of the gallery, the previously advertised exhibition Prize Collection will now be on display from Saturday 9 September until Sunday 24 September 2023.

Single Channel is a National Gallery Touring Exhibition supported by the Australian Government through the National Collection Institutions Touring and Outreach Program.
