Animal Secrets

Delve into the hidden world of animals these school holidays.

Uncover some of the secret animal behaviours and adaptations that help them to survive and thrive in their local ecosystems.

Thrive, Survive or Die

When we know how to look, animals show us what’s really going on in the world. Using the animals featured in the Museum’s displays, share your observations of what happens to ecosystems when one species of animal survives, thrives or dies.

The Secrets of Skulls

Skulls can tell us all kinds of secrets about how an animal is connected to its ecosystem. Drop in and explore our collection of skull replicas, and let’s work out what Tasmanian Devils eat, how powerful the extinct marsupial lion was, and how kangaroos replace their teeth.

Marks in the Sand: An introduction to tracking

Drop in and discover the intricacies of tracking, including how to identify animal tracks. You can practise drawing some tracks in the sand, a method Aboriginal people often use to teach youngsters what to look for when hunting for food. How skilful a tracker will you be?
