Sea Shanty Challenge

Past Event

Join us for the inaugural Sea Shanty Challenge!
Sea shanties were first popularised in the 18th century, originally designed to create a sense of community during long months spent at sea. The rhythm of the songs would also help with group tasks where sailors needed to push or pull at the same time (for example, lifting cargo via rope).
More recently sea shanties have grown in popularity during the Covid-19 global pandemic, bringing people together and a wish for a sense of community in these isolating times.
We have even seen Sea Shanties trending on TikTok! Join us and listen to the best Sea Shanty singers in WA battle it out to be crowned winners of Shore Leave’s inaugural ‘Sea Shanty Competition’
