The Australian Welsh Male Choir

Past Event

The Internationally famous Australian Welsh Male Choir, currently on a tour of Western Australia will be in concert at 2pm Sunday 18 September at the QEII Centre.

The choir originated in 1973 when a group of expatriate Welshmen got together to sing Christmas Carols. They found themselves a musical director, did some recruiting and featured the following year in the first ABCTV colour outside broadcast.

Over the next four decades the choir gone from strength to strength travelling throughout Victoria, interstate and overseas singing at iconic venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Sydney Opera House and the Great Wall of China.

Wales has a huge culture of male voice choir singing stemming from the coalminers of the valleys as they sung at work and in chapel.

Today’s choir reflects this style of Welsh four-part harmony singing, both beautiful and powerful.

Roughly a quarter of the program is sung in Welsh the remainder being made up of opera favourites, popular music of the last fifty years, showtunes and gospel choruses from many countries.

The choir will be supported by our own St Frances Xavier P.S. singers so book early for what should be a wonderful afternoon of glorious harmony and ensemble power from the country’s premier Welsh Male Choir.
