Accessible Travel
Geraldton is proud to be an accessible tourism destination, offering inclusive infrastructure and experiences that enable everyone to explore the region with confidence and ease.
The City of Greater Geraldton provides accessible beach matting at Town Beach and Champion Beach, making it easier for wheelchair users, seniors, parents with prams and visitors with mobility challenges to reach the sand and shoreline.
Visitors can also enjoy access to free to loan beach wheelchairs, available through the Changing Places facility and the Champion Bay Surf Life Saving Club. These services are supported by MLAK access, nearby accessible toilets and parking facilities, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free beach experience.
Beyond the coastline, Geraldton’s commitment to accessibility extends to key community facilities. The Geraldton Aquarena offers a range of inclusive features, including accessible parking, pool hoists, aqua wheelchairs, shower commodes and specialised change equipment to support people with mobility challenges. A disability access ramp provides entry into the outdoor pool, while inclusive aqua fitness classes and quiet-hour sessions create a welcoming environment for visitors of all abilities.

Visitors can also experience the nationally significant HMAS Sydney II Memorial, which has been designed with accessible pathways and open spaces to allow easy movement throughout the site. Located on Mount Scott overlooking the city, the memorial’s layout incorporates accessible walkways and viewing areas, enabling all visitors to engage with this important commemorative place and reflect on its history.

For those aged over 50 travelling through or visiting Geraldton, the QEII Seniors and Community Centre offers a welcoming space to connect and participate in a range of daily activities. Visitors are encouraged to drop in and enjoy fitness programs, creative sessions and social gatherings with like-minded seniors, providing a great opportunity to stay active, informed and connected while in the region.

In recognition of its commitment to accessible open spaces, the City of Greater Geraldton was Highly Commended at the 2025 MACWA Awards in the Open Spaces category, highlighting leadership and innovation in creating inclusive public environments.
Accessibility across the region is further strengthened by local organisations such as ATLAS, who provide equipment hire, adaptive support services and tailored inclusive tours throughout the Midwest. Together, these initiatives ensure visitors of all abilities can enjoy Geraldton’s beaches, attractions, and experiences in a welcoming and inclusive destination.
