Not all of our family members have two legs and leaving the beloved four legged one’s at home when you go on holiday can be heartbreaking and expensive.

So why not bring your precious pooch on holiday with you?

What’s that we hear you say?

Most places don’t welcome your happy hound?

In that case, you need to head to Geraldton for a holiday the whole family will love!

Accommodation

The Midwest is home to an abundance of pet friendly accommodation from caravan parks to Airbnbs that will suite a range of budgets.

Beaches

Geraldton is blessed with a stunning coastline and taking your dog to the beach is a way of life here. The majority of our beaches are dog friendly and you will find all of them sign posted giving you details as to what is permitted. You can also refer to the City’s website for a map of all the best beaches to bring your dogs to.

Dog Parks

A recent attraction that had many tails wagging is the new purpose built off lead dog exercise area at Leonard T Green Memorial Park. Conveniently located in the centre of the Olive Street Reserve, the new +1,000m square grassed area features two fenced spaces, dog waste bag dispensers, bins and drinking fountains with dog bowls. The ideal place to give your dog a run without getting them wet and sandy.

There is also an additional off lead dog parks at Waggrakine Hall and Wooree. The Wooree Park is particularly big hit with the kids as there is also playground equipment and a BMX track!

Pet stores and grooming

Everyone wants to look their best whilst they are on holiday and it is no different for our dogs. If you would like to freshen up your hound then Geraldton has four dedicated pet grooming businesses or you can do it yourself at either City Farmers, Pet City, the CBD car wash or the Dog Wash on the Brand Highway.

Walk trails

What dog doesn’t enjoy taking in new smells whilst out exploring the great outdoors?! Treat your dog and yourself to a good old fashioned ramble along a river on either the 17km Greenough River Nature Trail or the 11km Chapman River Trail. Ensure your hounds’ safety by keeping them on a lead and make sure you bring plenty of water for your expedition.

Outdoor cafes

With all these activities stomachs will rumble and refreshments are a must. Geraldton is renowned for its café culture and with so many of our eateries having outdoor areas it is no surprise that both humans and hounds are well catered a coffee or a puppacino is needed.

Local tip - the cafes along the Geraldton Foreshore and Beresford Foreshore are a favourite with dogs and their humans as they are accommodated with water bowls and there are dog waste bag dispensers and bins throughout the area.
